Don’t Miss These Ice Waves, Nautical Paintings and More from the Aubrey-Maturin Appreciation Society
The amazing videos and links below come from one of my favorite Facebook groups. If you’re a fellow Patrick O’Brian fan and you’re not a member of the Aubrey-Maturin Appreciation Society on Facebook, you’re missing out on good fellowship, discussion, and amazing shared content. The group is for those of us who have read most or all of the Aubrey/Maturin books. From the group’s description:
From Master & Commander through to the 21st incomplete instalment, this group is for those who have shared in the long ocean voyages, hardships, adventures, explorations, loves, lusts, friends, enemies, society balls, secret espionage, rolling broadsides, victories won, prizes taken, shipmates lost and gained, breakfast coffee and bacon, wardroom spotted dogs, and evenings of violin, cello and toasted cheese, with our heroes Jack Aubrey, Stephen Maturin, and their esteemed creator, Patrick O’Brian.
Joining is free, but the group is private, so you do need to request membership. Perhaps the following roundup of recent contributions will entice you to sign on:
First, amazing ice waves in Baikal Russia:
The image at the top of this post came from an article posted on the Appreciation page just yesterday: Hypnotizing Translucent Waves In 19th Century Russian Paintings Capture The Raw Power Of The Sea
Dr. Maturin would appreciate the following two articles:
- 5,000 years ago, rodents were apparently considered food in part of Europe
- Baby Tortoises Show Up In The Galapagos Islands For The First Time In 100 Years!
And finally, this beautifully shot video of a kingfisher ignoring the rules. Be sure to watch it to the very end.
