Phototherapy

They couldn’t take
him home
for three days.
The nurses put
tiny sunglasses over his
newborn eyes
to shield them
from the lights,
tiny white sunglasses
velcroed
to his temples.
The nurses turned him
like a baked potato
as the fluorescent blue lights
broke down the yellow bilirubin
and their green illusions.
