Welcome to Week 1 of Roots<\/em>, the beginning of the American Masterpieces Chapter-a-Day Read-Along. In Chapters 1-5 we are introduced to the world of Kunta Kinte\u2019s village of Juffure, or Jufureh, in The Gambia, West Africa. These opening chapters set the stage for the story by immersing us in the life, culture, and traditions of Kunta\u2019s Mandinka community where we see a society rich in customs, values, and connections to the natural world. Kunta\u2019s family and community are deeply rooted in their heritage, passing down stories and wisdom through generations.<\/p>\n What stood out to you about Kunta\u2019s early life in Juffure?
