When Alice Leiber almost dies giving birth to her baby boy, she is convinced that the baby is trying to kill her. Her husband and doctor don&#8217;t believe her&#8211;at least at first.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure exactly why this story disturbed me so much, but it definitely creeped me out. It reminded me of an episode of\u00a0<em>The Twilight Zone<\/em> or\u00a0<em>Night Gallery<\/em>. This is the fourth story I&#8217;ve read this year from\u00a0<em>The October Country<\/em>, and all of them have been top notch.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Small Assassin&#8221; was originally published in\u00a0<em>Dime Mystery Magazine<\/em>\u00a0in November, 1946.<\/p>\n<p>My Rating: \u2b51\u2b51\u2b51\u2b51\u2729<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just when the idea occurred to her that she was being murdered she could not tell.
