Last year I read a paltry three nonfiction books<\/a>, so I’m glad Katie at Doing Dewey is hosting a nonfiction challenge for 2018<\/a>. It’s a flexible challenge, so I’m going to keep it simple by reading a few nonfiction books that have been on my radar for awhile. I’m hoping to triple my nonfiction reading by reading nine books in 2018.<\/p>\n

Katie’s challenge is also going to feature a giveaway, Twitter chats, and a quarterly group read-along. Be sure to check out all the details at the 2018 Nonfiction Reading Challenge sign-up page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Here’s my preliminary reading list:<\/p>\n

  1. The Book: A Cover-to-Cover Exploration of the Most Powerful Object of Our Time<\/em>\u00a0by Keith Houston – I discovered this during Nonfiction November 2016.<\/li>\n
  2. The Purpose of Catholic Schooling<\/em> by James Michael Lee – My wife and I found this little book in her parents’ house when we were helping to get it ready to sell.<\/li>\n
  3. Collision Course: Ronald Reagan, the Air Traffic Controllers, and the Strike That Changed America<\/em> by Joseph A. McArtin – My dad was one of the striking air traffic controllers, and I’m curious to see what historians are saying about it now.<\/li>\n
  4. The Lost City of the Monkey God: A True Story<\/em> by Douglas Preston – This was recommended by several people during Nonfiction November 2017.<\/li>\n
  5. Only the Ball Was White<\/em> by Robert Preston – A re-read of a great book.<\/li>\n
  6. Pope Francis and the Joy of the Gospel<\/em> by Edward Sri – Our pastor gave this book to everyone on the parish staff to read.<\/li>\n
  7. Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption<\/em> by Bryan Stevenson – Another Nonfiction November recommendation.<\/li>\n
  8. Prayer in the Digital Age<\/em> by Matt Swaim – A parent at school gave me this book because of my roles as both deacon and school technology director.<\/li>\n
  9. 52 Little Lessons from\u00a0Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em> by Bob Welch – A colleague gave this to me a few years ago, and it will go perfectly with the\u00a0Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>\u00a0Chapter-a-Day Read-along<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
