One year ago I marked my 50th birthday by joining the Classics Club Challenge<\/a>. The goal of the challenge is to read fifty classic novels in five years, and after one year I’m ahead of the pace by three books. In the last twelve months I’ve read the following thirteen books:<\/p>\n

  6. Nineteen Eighty-four<\/em><\/a> by George Orwell (1949)<\/li>\n
  7. How Green Was My Valley<\/em><\/a> by Richard Llewellyn (1939)<\/li>\n
  8. Far from the Madding Crowd<\/em><\/a> by Thomas Hardy (1874)<\/li>\n
  9. The Trial<\/em><\/a> by Franz Kafka (1925)<\/li>\n
  10. Lonesome Dove<\/em><\/a> by Larry McMurtry (1985)<\/li>\n
