The Count of Monte Cristo Read-along Begins on May 9

Count of Monte Cristo translated by Robin BussOur reading of Don Quixote is coming to an end and it’s time to prepare for our next chapter-a-day book, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. We’ll be starting chapter 1 on Thursday, May 9, so if you don’t have your book yet, get it soon. I’ll be reading what I’ve heard is the best English translation, the Penguin Classics Kindle Edition translated by Robin Buss. Whichever version you read, be sure to get an unabridged version that has 117 chapters. The novel is also available on Project Gutenberg and as an audiobook on Librivox. As with all my chapter-a-day read-alongs, I’ll be posting a quote a day on both Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #montecristoreadalong.

I mentioned earlier this year that I have yet to read a Dumas novel that I did not like, and that still holds true even after reading three more of his books this year already. I had only planned on reading The Vicomte de Bragelonne, but it was so good I kept right on reading the rest of the Musketeer series, Louise de la Vallière and The Man in the Iron Mask. I’m really looking forward to spending the spring and summer reading The Count of Monte Cristo.

Here is the reading schedule for the book, and you can get the complete reading 2019 read-along schedule here.:

  1. The Don and I didn’t get along, but I’m really looking forward spending time with the Count. 😉
